According the media, Great Britain is considering putting a pornography filter on all internet accounts in the country to crack down on the "corroding effects of pornography on children." According the articles, all new internet accounts and in the future existing accounts will have "declare whether they want to maintain access to online pornography."
My question even though I don't live in Great Britain, is how tough will it be to disable the filter. Well you have to call your internet provider or will you be able to do it online? Have they worked out the details yet is it still in its initial stages? I haven't done too much research into yet.
I understand the move, but I don't approve of the method.
For example, lets say you're 18-24 years old, and live with parents. What if they didn't feel the need to have pornography? That effects privacy for people. It's not a case of the older recipients don't want access to porn, but rather it might be worded in ways to make porn seem like a bad thing. With a lot of these people lacking computer literacy, it might not effect them, but the change would effect their children, considering the fact that almost all the porn sourced now is available on the Internet, and less so from magazines and other subscription services.
I think that Internet monitoring should come as a part of parenting. As society evolves, you must naturally prepare your child for the big bad world. 20 or so years ago it would be a case of "keep all the naughty stuff on the top shelve, and out of the way of children". This day and age it's using filters such as K9 Web Protection, or ISP customised filtering for example.
If you have a child in this day and age, they will inevitably have access to the Internet, parents should know this, and already have the sense to take actions that prevent exposure from this content. The fact this movement is being introduced as government policy aimed at cracking down on paedophillia kind of sickens me.
Then there is one more variable I'd like to introduce...
- You have children, but still want access to pornographic sites.
This filter idea would be so universal, that if you block porn for your children, you've blocked it for yourself too. And I'm sure that all the naturally healthy humans out there would like to keep access to that content in moderation.
Seriously, if you own a computer, you should at least know how to protect you and your family from porn

Indeed, this government continues to make policy based on knee jerking and pandering to the "daily mail set." There is no evidence that this method will help in the slightest. There are already methods in place that responsible parents can take to disable access to porn. It just takes another responsibility off the shoulders of parents.
You know i dont normally vote (due to the fact that well, it doesnt really count for much most partys that have a chance of getting elected have the same / similar policy's which are usually full of crap and never come through, that and that Look how these cunts got into power, just goes to show how much our votes count for eh?), but damn it, next election im voting for some else, ANYONE ELSE for crying out loud.
And i dont have to go into the slipply slope argument here do i? We all see whats coiming next
you know i hope we eventually get separated from England at this point, i used to see it as a very dumb move.... but now.... Im in scotland btw.
i hope that this is just vote mongering and not some long running plan to control the internet.

You might be interested in signing this petition ichidai, and anyone else strongly against this.
That rapper summed the situation up very well. It's not morally right, and is down to the parents.
Read my prior post for more on my thoughts, just to save me repeating again.

Loved the video!
This causes me a lot of problems... Im 24 but live at home! I can't ask my parents to turn the filter off...I dont want that awkward conversation....
Also, I think this could be a detrimental move - filters like this tend to block out anything with any sexual content. The lack of openness in general life about certain desires, interests, and fetishes mean people grow up not really understanding why they feel certain things, or why some things turn them on. The internet is a safe and anonymous place for them to get advice, and see that they are actually normal - without this understanding the line between acceptable and not acceptable becomes blurred and also people will feel alienated.
Alienation in society is already rife and the root cause of 90% of the worlds problems, it doesnt need to be made worse.

Exactly Dave, couldn't agree more, it just pushes a whole host of legitimate activities underground and takes us back to an age when certain taboo things were deemed as deviant in nature.
