I'm not sure about the efficency of patches for videos. It's definitely not the same as computer programming source code. Small changes and adjustments in the video editor timeline will require a new video file render, and because of the mp4 compression on each and every video frames, finding byte similarities between two file versions might prove impossible.

Hi, doremi!
I just conducted an experiment using xdelta3. I used "CH Audition - noBM.wmv" and "CH Audition - withBM.wmv" as arguments. If the video was rendered using the same parameters, there should exist collisions, because some content will be encoded identically. Video compression algorithms aren't cryptographic hash algorithms, so the
avalanche effect probably isn't present.

- Audition_noBM_hex.png (140.88 KiB) Viewed 1468 times

- Audition_withBM_hex.png (146.37 KiB) Viewed 1468 times
Here's the results:
Code: Select all
xdelta3.exe -e -s CH\ Audition\ -\ noBM.wmv CH\ Audition\ -\ withBM.wmv Audition_add_BM.vcdiff
Audition_add_BM.vcdiff 1,063,592 KB
CH Audition - noBM.wmv 1,789,665 KB
CH Audition - withBM.wmv 1,793,150 KB
726,073 KB or about 709 MB were saved as a result.
EDIT: In retrospect, it probably isn't a good idea for a creator to supply patches because that would require one to have both the original video and the patch file, instead of just being able to download the revised version. In that respect, my bad!

This can still be useful if one is storing a ton of Cock Heros, revisions/alternate versions and all, and wanted to save some space.

Nice lesson in cryptography!
If anyone's going to upload the whole shebang, I'd be delighted to turn over access to my sharing-zones to him. It's become something I seldom have time (or adequate internet privacy opportunity) to take care of.

Whoa! Are you asking me to take control of maintaining the Mega Sharing Zones, book_guy? If that's the case, then I'd be honored to take the reins.

Reading thread, I'm left assuming that high_octane is using xdelta3 to test encrypted zips for collision with knowns to see if archive.org would DMCA on upload. Seems too far to go before trying, to me.
To the [POLL], yes.
To the concept of [POLL], yes. There is a torrent that did this, and I have its content, despite not wanting all of it.
I preferentially sent my MEGA source to book_guy for the same reason. So it would persist beyond me.
To my mind, CH releases follow Wrye's rules for mod release. The upload is irrevocable and so is sharing, but please be respectful. Sharing as-is with credit given is fair. Sharing with modification with credit is fair. Sharing without credit, in any case, isn't fair. Objection to the above isn't fair.
Archive as you wish. Publish as you wish. Respect the author. Respecting the author doesn't include submitting to their whim. It means credit where due.

That wasn't my intention. I'm not going to upload vcdiffs to the archive. I used xdelta3 just to show that small differences in CH revisions could be further compressed. It was an unrelated endeavor. I've already tested uploading a CH, and it accepted it. Encrypting the file is more than enough to obstruct a DMCA bot, since it essentially scrambles and obfuscates the data.
From what I've seen, the Internet Archive doesn't seem to DMCA anything, ever. The furthest I've seen them go is require (free) registration to download from an archive. All infringing content I've found there is only packed in either a zip or 7z, completely unencrypted, and that's the worst that has happened to a few of them.

I'd like to be as discrete as possible on the Internet Archive. Are you saying I should list the names of every CH author along with the content? To my knowledge, the Mega Sharing Zones do not do this. Usually, a CH video includes the name of the author somewhere in the video itself. However, this is not always the case. If I must include credits, it is not that big of a deal.
EDIT: Are you referring to the Cock Hero author, or the porn scene author? Crediting the latter happens even
less frequently.

However much the author credits themself within the video, don't remove it. That's all.

Understood. I was never going to modify the contents of the CH videos in any way, shape, or form.

About storage, any storage solution, only the production-name is relevant, or even a production-name to storage-filename list would do (should both names not match exactly, by design). All the other details can be found here or in upcoming databases so they do not ansolutely require to be along the stored file.
IMHO!

I'm not sure if I quite understand what you're saying. What do you mean by "production-name" or " production-name to storage-filename"?
- Does it have something to do with how the official filename of "Cock Hero: Heavenly Bodies" is "CHHB.mp4", and how if another CH was created with the same initials, it could cause a filename collision? Or how it could be difficult to find that CH by searching for it, not knowing that it is under the filename "CHHB.mp4"? If that's the case, I could always add it to a folder with a more sensible or descriptive name (like how the Mega Sharing Zones do it).
- I'm not going to obfuscate the filenames of CHs I upload, because that would be too troublesome for people trying to find one in particular.
If either of those two scenarios are not what you meant by that, then I could use some clarification. I understand that metadata about CHs can be stored in a database elsewhere.
Side Note:
- Spoiler: show
- Assuming that the majority are in favor of this, at the end of the voting period, I'll create a new thread with a link to the archive.org repository and provide some details about it. I'll also ask that if people are interested in archiving the Pornhub-only CHs, then their help would be greatly appreciated, because I do not have access to 1080p content on that site. The best I can do, if I come across it, is grab the 720p version, which is not ideal in some circumstances.

You got what I meant right on the nose, high_octane. I was vague enough on purpose to include both strategies.
