The severe weather conditions mentioned by Pilot Susan turn out to be significantly more dangerous than expected. Visibility is severely limited by an intense blizzard, and other shuttles in the fleet are taken out by collisions with each other or with hailstones the size of houses.
Your shuttle manages to make it through the atmosphere, but when you go to land the ventral thrusters have been damaged and you can't steady the vessel. Eventually the blizzard winds send your shuttle crashing into the side of a mountain and neither you nor Pilot Susan survives the impact.
