You have a choice to make. I am going to draw a card and you are going to predict if it is red or black. If you guess correctly you double your cube count. If you guess incorrectly the amount of cubes you have represents the number of days you have to wait to pick a cube again. Of course during these denial days you must still keep up with your daily tasks or the cube is lost when you return.
So for example if you have seven cubes and choose to gamble a correct prediction would double your cube count to fourteen, a incorrect guess would mean you not being able to select cubes for seven days. So seven more days without even the hope of release.
