You should at least have a damp cloth.
If you really want to impress, then maybe a brush and polish, but just a damp cloth is fine for now ... this is only your first lesson after all.
In fact if you want to use anything else on shoes or boots that are not yours I hope for your sake you have permission, as I would hate to think you might ruin them by using the wrong cleaning materials
