"Of course, Brooke saw her chance with you..."

"Look," you say, "I'm really sorry about that, but please don't hold what happened in high school against me..."

"But," she interrupts, "why didn't you come back to me? Brooke isn't any better looking than I am..."

"Yes, I know," you say, "but when you wouldn't talk to me, I was crushed. And Brooke got me on the rebound. Honestly, I never thought it would affect you so deeply. I didn't know you cared about me that much!"
