Got a chastity cage. Looking for advice

Hi all
Received my first chastity cage in the mail yesterday. I'm looking for some help on breaking myself in safely.
The one I got is this http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 9013961609
I've read some slightly negative reviews on cheapies on this site, but it seems to be a decent cage. And I don't want to break the bank if I decide this is not for me.
So I'm looking for some advice on comfort and safety. To begin, I initially had a hell of a time getting the ring on. Finally, with a little lube, I was able to get Jimmy inside. It was quite snug, and I first thought maybe I need a larger ring, but it didn't seem to cause any circulation problems. I left it at that for a bit--watched some tv for an hour or two before adding the cage. I'd found a tip about using pantyhose. Threaded the hose through the pee hole, through the cage, then wrapped that around Jimmy to pull him through. Worked quite well. I didn't need any lube for that step. I kept that on for another hour or three, then decided to take it off, as I understand it's best to slowly get oneself accustomed to this.
After removing it, I noticed a little red line on my inside left crotch from the ring. Should I take this as an indication that I need to bump up to a 45mm ring? Since I fit in this, I assume the 50mm will be too big. I only lubed my shaft to put on the ring. If I coat the whole thing in some Vaseline, do you think that will do the trick, instead of going larger? I'm thinking a thorough coating of the whole unit should, first, avoid chafing, and, second, may reduce the possibility of rusting, on the chance that the cheapie may do so.
What sort of time frames should I be using to introduce myself to this? Can I jump right into a full half day or so, or start with just a few hours, or??? As stated, with what I have now, there do not seem to be circulation issues, but I don't want to have an emergency creep up while I'm at work. I work as a waiter, and, especially with the busy holiday season, sometimes there is just no time to run to the bathroom.
Finally (I think), do you think I can trust this in the shower? I messaged the seller about this, and he said he could not guarantee it, but that he has many customers wear them long term, including showers, and has not received any word of problems related to that.
Thanks in advance for any help. Still debating if I want to go for complete chastity with occasional relief, or chastity with regular teasing and occasional relief, or what. No SO to decide for me, but I have thought of some fun ideas (like wearing it to a strip club to constrain erections).
