Cliff notes:
Porn (ie sex) causes an intense release of dopamine in brain.
Dopamine is the reward chemical, which drives us to do things.
With intense bursts of dopamine, the dopamine receptors in brain cells decreases (the desensitization).
This leads to people losing in ordinary activities as the dopamine releases by those activities is not enough to activate the reward system due to decreased number of dopamine receptors.
User seeks more extreme porn to maintain the reward rush of dopamine.
Normal dopamine receptor levels can be restored once user stops porn.
It was an intresting series, I had not thought that dopamine bursts would change the brain itself, and that porn would change the user to not enjoying the activities.
However, I am not quite so sure about the escalation they issue. It is true I have struggled with having interest and motivation in day to day life, but I do not see a correlation between that and porn (porn used stayed constant), plus I have family history of depression etc.
In particular I do not agree at all with their observation that people go to more and more extreme porn.
My porn tastes have sort of changed (well not really), but that is because their is more relevant content now. Femdom, striptease etc.
They also say that "often users clicking on porn videos even after an orgasm, so orgasm doesnt put a stop to watching porn". I have never had desire to watch more porn after an orgasm.
Even while edging, I get tired of it after a while.
Anyone experienced the issue of losing day to day motivation and enjoyment due to porn use?
