@Indigo,

You have something of a point there. However, I think that virtually anything that motivates people to learn (e.g. some technology) is a good thing. If this comic motivates even a few people to start learning about Arduino and physical computing, I think that's helpful, provided they don't so anything terminally stupid.

Having said that, I also believe that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!
I hope beginners stick to safe arduino projects (5 volts, low amperage, no mechanical or electrical connections to anybody.) I can see the potential for somebody to venture out of such a safe zone, when they haven't learned enough to be cautious with electricity and/or mechanics. If people insist on playing with things they don't understand, then it's evolution in action; see the Darwin Awards! :-D

There are also several fail-safes built into Arduino, is that right? I purchased one over the summer to fiddle around with, and had some fun with it. Wish I had more time to devote to learning electronics in general. When learning electronics for the first time after you purchase Arduino, it seems a bit akin to using Dreamweaver to make your first website. That is, it does most of the work for you and you don't understand what's going on at the basic level as well.

Some good books for analog electronics that I have read and are *super* good to learn electronics in general:

http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Started-E ... rest-Mims/
http://www.amazon.com/Make-Electronics- ... les-Platt/

After that, some very nifty Arduino (specifically, for those with little to no experience with electronics or the Arudino itself) tutorials can be found at these pages:

http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/HomePage
http://www.ladyada.net/learn/arduino/

There's a couple more in a folder of favorites on another computer, but those are some good ones I've read through! Also I really liked the thread author's tutorial, very nice and different too. :-)

I have just realized all the fun ways to utilize this device. So if you are my sub and reading this be careful I might configure something for you. :devil:
