You have something of a point there. However, I think that virtually anything that motivates people to learn (e.g. some technology) is a good thing. If this comic motivates even a few people to start learning about Arduino and physical computing, I think that's helpful, provided they don't so anything terminally stupid.

Having said that, I also believe that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!
I hope beginners stick to safe arduino projects (5 volts, low amperage, no mechanical or electrical connections to anybody.) I can see the potential for somebody to venture out of such a safe zone, when they haven't learned enough to be cautious with electricity and/or mechanics. If people insist on playing with things they don't understand, then it's evolution in action; see the Darwin Awards!

There are also several fail-safes built into Arduino, is that right? I purchased one over the summer to fiddle around with, and had some fun with it. Wish I had more time to devote to learning electronics in general. When learning electronics for the first time after you purchase Arduino, it seems a bit akin to using Dreamweaver to make your first website. That is, it does most of the work for you and you don't understand what's going on at the basic level as well.
