Considered using pain/denial for self-improvement?

Has anyone here, guy or girl, dom/domme or sub, ever considered using pain and denial as a way to grow as a person? Maybe shake a bad habit, or develop a new, useful one? Or used pain and denial to ends other than just the sexual?
(Please note: Performing non-sexual tasks for a Master/Mistress with whom your relationship is primarily sexual doesn't count)

Yes, I have setup a program in the past where I am in denial until I earn points to cum. The way to earn points is by working out. So the more you workout, the better!

Interesting. I am currently trying to use denial to cut down/stop smoking.
If I don't obey my mistresses demands about how many cigarettes I am allowed or various other tasks I must perform I don't get to cum.
The mistresses are fictional - various beauties I have found pictures of on line - but I am finding that their threat of denial and or punishment helps me toe the line.

I had a dom encourage me for a Job interview.
If I did well and got the job I would get a reward.
If I feal I did well and got a call back some smaller reward
If I missed the job I would get punished.
I think I did well in the interview but odly they never did call me back or offer me the job for weeks,
I was so stressed about it my master made my punishment mild
But I turely believe it helped me interview!
edit: By self improvement I assume you mean things that are not sexual... because after weeks and months serving,
I increased my ability to hold edges..
increased my pain tolerances, and even started liking some pain.
and
Was able to handle being caged for days instead of hours.
