To address your question, well, masculine traits are still there. Hands, arms, face if I had to guess, i dunno. LOL, a female friend once told me that arms are the best male body part, cause they give cuddles.

For both gender's physical attraction is a continuum.

When you put it that way, No, not so much. A naked, pudgy, doughy mid-30's male body isn't the sexiest sight that can be seen. But, dress him up nicely and he can be pleasant enough to look at. And, like closetidiot said, hopefully that "average" male has an above-average feature or two... maybe pretty eyes or strong forearms or just some little thing that happens to appeal to the viewer. :)

I believe that women actually more attracted to personality rather than body. As you said a good looking body is a plus, but I often see cute girls walking hand in hand with a completely unattractive male (fat often), and smiling happily.
I think that it's actually how nature work. For men the most appealing thing in a future partner is HEALTH, that's why we look on body. Men need a healthy female to produce a healthy and strong children. we find more attractive the women with big enough breasts (will feed the child), big ass (will protect the child while pregnancy, also capable of holding bigger child), not fat but not bones, with a good skin tone, etc.
For women it's success and personality what matter - they seek guys who will hunt down a mamonth for them AND who will take care of them and the child. That's why personality and signs of personal success attract them far more than your body. That doesnt mean women are greedy bitches, that's just our natural roles in finding the other parent for our child is.
dont know how in europe and usa (I heard lots of people are fat there) but in russia most girls are slim in a good way, have A-C breasts (which is fine by me), ans a nice ass. About a body for me - I find most girls attractive. Face is different.

The soft features. Women can put on a bit of weight, and still remain feminine as soft is feminine. Butt, legs, breasts, stomach can all take on weight. The average woman body is just a blown up version of the super sexy 18 year old girl.
In 40s, things change though, the skin sags, and body fat droops.

Unfit men on the other hand, the weight usually goes to the midsection, arms and legs look feminine.

For me sexiness is not just based on physical attraction, yes as a woman I would say I have a "type" that I like physically. But for someone to be sexy to me it has to be the whole package, good gsoh, strong mind, caring, considerate and someone that I find physically attractive.

This might not be what you are seeking to find out but..

It has been my experience that men are far more visually stimulated than women (perhaps that is why webteases are more popular with men).

Women are known to be much more mentally stimulated.

Personally, I have always be stimulated by sound. A sexy voice is what does it for me, hands down.

I've been complimented about my voice on a few occasions as it is quite deep, just a shame it gets drowned out in loud places because of its tone :(
