yup that's what happened to me 12 years ago.

Except I was found out by an over 45's general check up.
I did not associate the symptoms with anything.

My biggest tip is learn to cook and then no take outs/aways .
I find cooking relaxing as well as cheaper and tastier.

My stats are stable now and life doesn't suck unless you let it bleed you.

Any time Indy you want help or info your welcome to ask.

Well, now that the cats' out of the bag ...

I started noticing recently, that my blood pressure was a bit on the high side, after being relatively normal. I didn't start worrying, until it hit 130/112. On top of that, I'd been having dizzy spells, trouble concentrating, frequent urination, etc. I went to the doctor earlier in the week, and had a complete CBC/Chem 13 blood panel done.

Turns out, I have what's called hyperglycemia, and the beginnings of onset type 2 diabetes. I'm on 11 different meds, everything to modify my blood glucose levels (currently in the 450 range), my blood pressure, my kidney, liver, and pancreatic functions, and a host of other issues.

In the short term, life sucks - royally. In the long term, I look at this as a reason to get highly motivated about getting myself back to a better place, both mentally, and physically. As soon as I'm physically able again, I'm going to start a strict physical regimen, on top of changing my diet.

I'm posting the details of what's going on, because I honestly had no inkling anything was wrong with me. The first indication to get checked at all was my blood pressure, which is more or less due to stress, and not related to the other issues. But it might be a wake up call to someone else, and save them a lot of pain, and trouble later in life. Having a little bit of blood drawn, and getting checked really can save your life someday.

That being said, thank you all for your concern! But I've survived quite a lot in my life already, this sure as hell won't get me!

Thanks all!

Indy

Your doing good baby :)

and you know I love you

FUCK
Isnt that full blown diabetes? :-/

How can this happen to a guy in his 20s?? Are you morbidly obese or something?

PS; I would recommend having the bloodwork done again..I'm sure the hospital would have checked your blood when you had the surgery, and it seemed fine then..so for blood sugar to suddently shoot up to 450, its very, very, very, VERY unusual.

Of @Human

Nods

My body produces insulin but not of sufficient quality and quantity to work with out help.
By careful diets I have kept off injections and intend to stay that way as long as possible.
As a side note when I stopped drinking my bloods went berserk as alcohol does lower the glucose levels.
they have stabilised now.

Indy diet soda really does help.

It does piss me off the only freely available is diet coke.
(No good without Jack Daniels)

Indigo™ wrote:Nah, can't stand the stuff. Besides, from what I've read, the stuff they put in diet soda causes other problems, long term. I think I'll stick to good old water.

So alcohol lowers blood sugar ... *ponders having a drink ... or ten*

Or maybe not ...

The stuff caused problems to rats eating more than they normally eat proper food and nothing else.
(equivalent to drinking up to 2,083 cans of diet soda daily)
Every thing can be a poison even water at the deadly dosage.
That's why I was so careful about my diet was so I could carry on drinking,
Decided that would be my cheat.

What did I say that came off as offensive?

Are they treating the cause of your illness? I got the impression the meds were just treating the symptoms..
