Just send a PM to Seraph0x and he'll get rid of 'em.
As I understand it, these folks are registering manually, like normal users, then automating their spam.
As Seraph0x told me....not much he can do about that unless he turns off registration all together. Might be a bit extreme.

Thanks for your replies Incubo and Indy
I shall carry on as I do then.
Chuckles just got up and see one has been active shortly after the post of yours Indy.

Seems the guys want to draw attention to themselves now with bulk sends to all categories.
Still we see far less than almost any other site I know of.
One thing I just thought of, if you can check an applicants IP like I think I have read before in the past voting problems.
Could we have an activation email sent for new members which allows checking for dodgy IP addresses.
Just a thought not a request.

We already do this. Not only do we keep our own IP blacklists, we also exchange IPs and email addresses of known spammers with the following blacklists:
- fSpamlist
- StopForumSpam
- Sorbs
- Spamhaus
- SpamCop
- ProjectHoneyPot
So far the IP-based blocking system has blocked 45361 spammers who would have successfully signed up if we were using plain phpBB3 (Captcha + Antispam question).
But it's aging and I urgently have to update it. So many todos, so little time.

On other forums where spam is the problem they do a special thread where users can post links on spam threads.

In a strange way I am impressed with his effort for selling fake shoes etc that he must know is ignored.
