"The common slang term blow-*** is a misnomer, as blowing is not normally part of fellatio. In fact, blowing air into a partner's penis is an unhealthy practice. It is most commonly thought to be a facetious use of "blow" as the opposite of "suck". It has been suggested to be a corruption of "below-job", allegedly an old Victorian slang term that was commonly used to describe the act. However, there is a third school of thought that believes the word "blow" in "blow-***" indicates the climax of the penis (compare to blowing of a volcano). The phrase "blow-***" originated in the 1940's;[7] at the time, it was also used by Allied pilots as a slang term for jet aircraft.[8]"

You are not alone with not knowing the truth ;)

Basically they say the origin is not known, or at least not proved.

I've heard that it's simply slang that came from the concept that jazz musicions don't "play", they "blow"

and if you think of what it looks like when someone puts a trumpet (or the mouthpiece of any brass instrument for that matter) to their lips...

My guess is that it's probably because the "job" is to make you Blow (cum) ;-) .

Anna! You shouldn't know these things!

And from the Dictionary of Contemporary Slang (looks like I had the alternate meaning)

Blowjob: n

an act of fellatio. This term, now widespread in English-Speaking countries, spread from the USA in the 1960s. A puzzling misnomer to many, to blow in this context is probably a euphemism for ejaculate, a usage occasionally recorded in the 1950s. This may itself be influenced by the there (s)he blows of whaling clich? . An alternative and equally plausible derivation of blow job is from the black jazz musicians' hip talk expression blow meaning play (an instrument). This term probably caught on in Britain and Australia simply because there was no well-known alternative in existence.

I guess it depends on the trumpet player!

You may want facts, but you're not going to get any. There simply aren't any facts when you're discussing the evolution of slang terms. It's all heresay and guesses. You may as well ask why a mushroom is called a mushroom. No real reason.

However, English is a "living" language that changes and evolves so if you prefer, you can call it a "suck job" and see if that catches on.

Why is it called a blow-job?
So it'll sound like there's a work-ethic attached to it. :-D

On a sidenote, let me quote Lewis Black:
Is oral sex adultery? Yes.
If curling is an Olympic sport, oral sex is adultery.
And I think oral sex should be an Olympic sport.
Because it's harder than curling ever has been, and if you're any good at it, you deserve a medal!

Sorry......
Just one of those odd things I tend to have memorized.

Blowjob, Blow and Job
Job, a role in which you do a specific task and produce the result

Blow - your going make something blow. In this case, Him

Guess it's to symbolise that the job in hand (pun intended) is to make the guy blow his load, or in milovana tease ways, get him almost there, and then make him accept what you want.

so a......blueballjob?

A bitter new widow, quite tough,
To her mate's ashes said in a huff,
"You've diddled young girls,
Never brought me no pearls,
And wanted me to blow you - so puff!"
