Question about lube.

Quick question about the effects of lube types on different materials.
I just got a toy that's made from silicone and it says to use a water based lube. The lube I currently have is oil based. If I use the oil based lube on the silicone will it damage it?
Thanks for any advice.

Yes it will damage it.

If you want a cheap solution, go to the drug store and buy KY Jelly. If you want one of the best water based lubes (in my opinion), buy Liquid Silk from a sex shop or
order it online. I doesn't gets sticky like the other ones.

Dammit.
I just found a web site that said it was ok as well.
Cheers Aria.

Edit: Not to say you're rong or anything Aria but I can't seem to find any sites saying that oil based lubricants shouldn't be used on toys. And that it's silicone based ones that will damage them.
You any idea?

Same web site that I found.

I'm gonna give it a shot anyway. Degridation will only occur over time so I recon that I'll still get my money worth out of it (If miss Jay sees fit to let me use it. Nut she'd probablly say no lube either

)

Depending on what's it REALLY made of (not everything that says it is silicone really is silicone), most hard rubber toys shouldn't be too affected by the oil based lubricant.
However, if possible, I wouldn't use the stuff, because:
a. Oil lubricant will break down the condom you cover it with... and if it's a toy you use anally (or any other orifice for that matter), you better use a condom.
and
b. If you want to fully clean off the oil based lubricant (and anything that is mixed in with the lubricant after you play with the toy), than you will need to use some fairly harsh cleaners (bleach in particular) or you will have to boil it, and these things can definitely ruin toys... Maybe the toy won't degrade in front of your eyes, but it will have a life measured in 2-6 months as opposed to 2-6 years.

Thanks Alison,
I'll try and get round to ordering up some water based stuff and some condoms in the near future.
