Massive new anti-spam system

Hey folks,

I'm sure you've noticed some forum spam recently, so as a reaction we installed a new anti-spam system. Every new registration is checked against several databases of known spammers. I've been testing this a while now and I've found that it would indeed have caught almost all of the spam from the past few weeks.

By the nature of the thing some legitimate users may be blocked as well. Sadly, this can't be avoided. If you're one of these unfortunate souls, please send an angry email to [email protected] and we'll get you an account manually. Include your desired username, password and why you'd like to join Milovana. Again, we're very sorry about the inconvenience and we're doing everything to minimize these false positives.

If you already have an account, this change doesn't affect you at all as the filter only concerns new registrations. :-)

Cheers,

Seraph0x ;-)

I recently deleted one last bot and it seems we finally got rid of those annoying bots :-) Thank you again to everybody who reported the spam posts to the team. It was very, very helpful!

Awesome, glad to hear that.

Also from me a huge :thankyou: to dark and tex especially and to the rest of the Team for doing an amazing job handling the issue. I'm sure the arms race will continue and we'll do everything we can to stay ahead of the game, but nothing can replace having dedicated and experienced moderators. :-)

I'm also very happy that we found a solution that allows normal users to get in easily without having to jump through tons of hoops. I also wanna announce that I've turned off the CAPTCHA for now - no point really since bots seem to have no problem solving it.
