[FEEDBACK] DominatR - a "Matching Submission" inspired tease

I just launched the first version of DominatR, a tease heavily inspired by the excellent Matching Submission.

The new tease is at DominatR.

This version has a similar structure to Matching Submission. It's based on a dating / matching app, where you get randomly connected to various dommes. You can skip them, or they may skip you. My goal was to make something that feels like a natural progression - something that happens in one session can affect later sessions, or kick off branching storylines that send you in entirely new directions.

The tease is also designed to reward repeat plays. Not only will you have a chance to explore other paths, but things you did last time could affect what you see this time.

I tried to wrap as much of the functionality as I could up in Javascript helper functions, to reduce the chance of major breaking bugs, but I am sure there are tons of bugs here still. Please let me know if you run into anything.

I also have a few more branches in the backlog that I'd like to flesh out at some point, so stay tuned.

Changelog:
Spoiler: show
  • 0.01 - initial version
  • 0.02 - bugfixes, introduced skip counters per page to reduce repeats
  • 0.03 - Azura and Miyu have joined the site
  • 0.04 - Nadia no longer gets stuck if you answer too well. JS console logs are much more detailed now
  • 0.05 - major refactor of under the hood functionality. Should be mostly transparent to players
  • 0.1 - started using the new refactor to handle more persistent state / memory for the girls. Liloo was so impressed that she's signed up for the app herself
  • 0.2 - Guinevere has joined the site but she's hard to find. It might take repeated plays to locate her.
  • 0.3 - Vicki has joined and is ready to play. Zelda can't wait to meet you either.
  • 0.5 - Aria has joined and wants to see you suffer. Many users will now remember if they've skipped you in a session and will not match with you again.

That was quick, impressive

Your credits page probably should link back to the start page. I'll take a look at the rest later!

I've been sorta obsessed with this idea since I first saw your tease

A lot of what I've done here is based on using a queue for upcoming matches. Being able to inject pages into the queue allows me to do ongoing stories in a consistent way that is relatively easy to implement, so a new idea can be put together pretty fast. I think yours has more clever logic in it than mine, too, so that reduced the complexity of what I was building. I was also kinda lazy finding images and that probably shows, but I hope the exploration and discovery of different paths makes up for that.

I mostly struggle with not making every one of the matches sound the same. I'm a better coder than I am a writer, and I'm not very good at either

I'll check it out laterz, just hope it doesn't give me rejection pains again.....

I think Matching submission is the tease that had more work put into it and it shows.
I imagine that you know you made a tribute and wouldn't surpass the original.
But you made this one very quickly and if it wasn't being compared with Matching submission it would be a 5 star tease.

You should be proud of your creation.
It's a fun tease that already showed a few fun surprises and interactions and I look forward to discovering if there are any more.
It's clearly mimicking Matching submission but it isn't a copy, there is still plenty of your own creativity on display to make it entertaining.

I do think the superuser as a match might have a little problem?
it appears very often and is almost identical each time. Is it a bit boring or a bit bugged?

I think the superuser appearing many times was just luck of the draw, but I will keep an eye out on that to see if anyone else reports similar.

One possible enhancement I’ve considered is keeping track of pages you’ve seen too many times, but doing so in a way that isn’t super buggy or doesn’t break the ones I WANT you to see many times can be tricky.

I’ll also say that some of them are intentionally less interesting than others. That’s why there’s a “skip” button. But you never know when that one you were about to skip could get fun. :-D

The uncertainty is very much intended to keep you guessing.

Haven't had the chance to go too deeply into this yet, but after a preview it looks really interesting. I really like seeing a quality tease and/or one with a novel premise (or both, like this) become the framework for a new one, and seeing what that leads to.

Obviously, I hope you are able to expand this in the future. I say that not yet aware of how long it is, I just think there's endless potential for something like this.

I did manage to find what I think is a bug from clicking through a bit. It seems like if you skip a user and then encounter them again, they treat it like a continuation, not a first encounter. I'm also not sure if you should be matched and put into the same scene a second time if you started it and were skipped.

I absolutely agree about the potential of Shattered's brilliant idea here! This was what inspired me to revive a dead Milovana account to make something new. In my opinion, Matching Submission was a great idea, right up there with Cock Hero in terms of cleverness, originality, and flexibility. I really really hope that a bunch of people start creating matching teases (because I want to play them!). I'm not even interested in chastity, and Matching Submission was still my favorite tease ever :w00t:

Thank you for catching this - there's one user in particular where this is more of an issue because of the way her queue works, and I already have a TODO to fix it.
I'm also not sure if you should be matched and put into the same scene a second time if you started it and were skipped.
This is more of a missing feature due to trying to keep the complexity down. In some cases, I want you to have the option to return after you've been skipped, to give you a chance to try another path. It's a balance between allowing players to explore lots of branches and having a more "realistic" tease. In a few of the matches, I've dropped some stuff into the script to imply that the dommes just flat-out won't bother to remember you.

Maybe I'll make the "you aren't worth remembering" more blatant in some cases. That would keep the logic simple AND add more humiliation to the tease

(Nerd stuff incoming)

I am very aware of a balance between ease of maintenance and richness of the story that occurs here. My main goal is to reduce "breaking" bugs where you get stuck in an endless loop or you can't make any progress. To accomplish that, I am trying to build as much of the logic as possible as reusable code in the init script, instead of complex paths built into the individual tease pages, and I haven't come up with a good way to implement some of the memory-related stuff that doesn't make the script much harder to maintain.

The main issue preventing me from implementing some of the more complex logic I'd like to use is Javascript limitations in the EOS sandbox implementation. Specifically, EOS runs things basically as one-off commands, and it continues running on certain commands. The specific functionality I desperately want is error handling when calling pages.goto, but try... catch blocks don't work with the async calls

Because I can't reliably use error handling, reproducing the same type of logic (like preventing a repeat script if you've skipped the user before) involves copy / pasting JSON chunks into each of the matches - which can be really fragile, especially early in development where I'm changing things frequently.

I did just push an update that keeps track of how often you skip each user, and disables those users from random matching if they've been skipped too many times. I will keep thinking about ways to use this to make matches more interesting.

I really like the tease so far and the potential it has.
I just wonder since it is just v0.03 do you have such big plans with the tease or just want to have the option for many bug fixes?
Keep up the good work and have fun with testing stuff out.
Spoiler: show
I really liked the interaction with the 2 new girls and the trigger

I have an handful of ideas for other matches or stories, but no really big plans. I’m mostly calling it a very low version because I don’t know how many bugs there are. I’d like to get the helper code in a place where it’s really easy to extend and add new content so it could be updated a lot over time but I don’t know if I’ll ever get there. I know Shattered had some guest writers for Matching Submission too and I’d be keen to try that once I’ve got the bugs ironed out.

It seems like it got corrupted the last time I published it. I pushed another update but it's after a major refactor, so hopefully I didn't break anything else.
