When did "Gooning" originate?

Suddenly this became a "thing" a little while ago, I started noticing titles/posts on tube sites, then the caption and hypno vids. For a lot of folks this gave a name to something they'd been doing already...long edging sessions and zoning out, gorging on porn and all.
If this is something that people had been doing for a while, I wondered if it originated with internet porn - as in, "Is this a purely modern phenomena?" But then I remembered my coming-of-age years, and the adult rite of passage of renting VHS from the back room of a local video store, and seeing "6 Hours of _____" video collections as rentals.
So did the *name* originate recently? Or did a word take on a new meaning?
I know, I know - my brain doesn't shut off, and I do a lot of traveling alone.
Well, a song in my music playlist popped up and it kind of clicked. "Goon" as a verb and "gooning" has been around since at least August 13th, 1991 - that was the date when the first Mr. Bungle album was released. On this...eclectic, art-jazz-metal-acid-funk album produced by the possibly-insane John Zorn, full of depraved lyrics and filth, stands out 2 tracks. TW: Keep in mind this band took the term "Hardcore" pretty seriously. GWAR would blush.
One, "Girls of Porn". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7x_uBcg3DE. This is definitely one of the most in-your-face disgusting tracks, on an album with another song's lyrics about fucking food ("Squeeze Me Macaroni"). But lyrically, it's perfectly describing "gooning" - "My hands get tired / my dick gets sore / but the girls of porn want more" among others.
But they don't say, explicitly "gooning". That comes AFTER - on the last track of the album, "Dead Goon". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLMVe2_a3xY It's a dark biographical track about a lonely and horny young man who dies accidentally from autoerotic asphyxiation. Not gonna repeat the lyrics here - it's triggery. Buuuuuut....it feels like an epilogue to "GoP" - both as a warning and a continuation. The "Goon" is deeply into masturbation in more frenzied and extreme ways.
So we have some anthropological evidence of "Gooning" predating the internet by a few years, existing in the cultural miasma somehow, at least in the late days of VHS porn. This could suggest it begins to coalesce a little earlier - if the 18 year old Mike Patton was writing about it in '91, it certainly had origins he had picked up on - not like a few terms coined by Dan Savage's community like "Pegging", which was essentially crowd-sourced in the aughts.
What do you think? Do you have any earlier examples of when maybe this phenomena began and was coined?
