What did they do at the airport?

I think I need a second opinion(s) on an "observeration". I don't know where else to ask such a thing :)
A few years ago, on a Friday afternoon, I was to pick up a friend at the airport. Since his airplane was a little bit delayed, I had to wait for quite a while. Standing there waiting with nothing to do, a quite pretty blond girl caught my attention. That's why I observed whom she was waiting for: Another blond girl, slightly older. They quickly kissed on the lips and walked straight (no pun intended) away to the right-hand side. Hand in hand, but without speaking a word. At that moment, I didn't think of anything special. That happened in a quite tolerant city in Europe. Girl-girl relationships and girls kissing and holding hands in public aren't anything extraordinary.
However, about 10 till 20 minutes later, they came back and went to the left-hand side. Still hand in hand and still without saying a word.
Now, one thing you must know about the arrival area of that particular airport terminal is that it has two exits. The one to the left-hand side directly leads to one of several parking areas, whereas the one on the right-hand side leads to everything else you'd expect on an airport (other parking areas, shops, cafés, connecting flights, taxis, public transport, toilets ... you name it).
So, I began to wonder: Why did they first head to the right-hand side and then to the left-hand side? And what did they do in between?
There's no clue that they were going in the wrong direction first. They seemed to know the place and moved determinately with no sign of confusion or losing orientation at all.
Now, of course, it could be that one of them needed to do whatever at the airport. But, even if you had communicated such a thing beforehand you would say something like "Remember that I wanted to go to the ... shop to buy .... before we head to the car?", wouldn't you? But no, none of them spoke a single word.
So, it seems to me that it must have been something they'd regularly do. A thing that is clear and needs no communication. (Again, it was a Friday afternoon: It's quite likely that one partner regularly went home over the weekend and they met each Friday at the airport.) Their movements seemed like routine to me, almost like a ritual.
And I'm wondering ever since every now and then: What kind of ritual might that be? Have a coffee at the airport before heading home? Go for a walk in the terminal?
I cannot help it. To me, the most likely explanation is that they went to the ladies' for ... well ... sexual activities.
Now: What do you guys think? Could I be right? Or is it just my oversexed/perverted mind dictating that assumption?
