Problem With Nyx

I started working on a Flash tease called "Her Favorite." Everytime I try to load it, I get get alerts that the editor can't contact the server and that I should ask for help in the forum. I can usually dismiss those and call up the tease.

After several abortive attempts, I finally got all my photos loaded that I plan to use in the tease.

When I try to call up the actual tease, it tells me it can't parse the page and I should edit on the script page. I can delete the pages there and create a new page, and then I can edit in the visual page, including adding a photo. However, when I try to save it, it tells me that it can't parse the page and to edit in the script page. Of course, the amount of work to edit in the script page is fairly prohibitive (all the HTML necessary). And, it won't display the page. I go to the script page, and I can see the script, and I can save it; however, it won't let me preview it.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or what; but I don't think so.

Thoughts?

I may have to turn this into a conventional tease, though I really wanted to cut my teeth on the Flash editor with this one.

Please be patient,
(if you cared about voting you would have done a regular to start with)
I'm not the tech person, but it sounds like a tech problem.

Is your flash up to date?
I personnaly think its the new flash update thats scrabling things.
I base this on, flash booted me off system three time today
when trying to just view a Flashtease.

Hope you'll wait and release it as a FlashTease

Votes are not an issue.

I wanted to learn how to use the Flash Editor. I chose this tease idea to do it...thought it lent itself to the Flash concept. But, if I can't get it to work, I can't learn.

I am pretty sure my Flash is up-to-date. I am using Firefox, but I doubt that is the issue, given the predisposition toward Firefox on the site.

Eventually, I will just want to write the tease. I'd much rather do it as a Flash tease.

That's weird. I called up your tease. No errors, no problem.

Yes, in the script tab it said "start#1page" instead of "start#page", that's why the visual editor couldn't parse the page anymore. I fixed it for you.

Hmm, sounds like you're getting confused between the visual tab and the script tab. Beginners should write their teases in the visual tab and only in the visual tab. Advanced users should write them in the visual tab and then add the finishing touches (features the visual editor doesn't support yet) in the script tab. And only experts should attempt to start in the script tab and/or switch between the two.

Please note that switching between the script and visual tabs is not supported, ideally you would use one or the other. We've hacked together some stuff so switching is possible a little bit, but it's not robust and the visual editor will be very picky about what it can and cannot parse.

The problem with switching between the tabs is a fundamental flaw in the design of the system and won't be fixed until FlashTease 2 (expected to arrive in summer 2009).

The HTML is generated by the visual editor, but it's by no means necessary. You can just enter text with no HTML at all if you like. Again, use either the visual editor or the script editor, but avoid using both.

This problem was due to the same typo I mentioned above, so it should also be fixed.

My most important advice is, for your first couple of FlashTeases, don't even ever open the script tab. I know the visual editor is currently restrictive, but at least it's fairly easy to use and reliable. ;-)

seraph0x,

Thanks for the reply.

The only reason I went to the Script Tab is because the alert told me that I needed to do so. I am aware of my limited experience with the Flash Editor; so, I necessarily want to start out with it as easy as possible. I know I can manually do the scripting; but, I'd much rather NOT do it manually.

I appreciate you taking a look at it.
