i dont really check in all that often so sometimes I miss a release. is there any way to sort threads by the date that the author originally posted them (and not the latest reply)?

You can do it via the search function - just search for "release" and limit it to topic titles only: search.php?keywords=release&terms=all&a ... mit=Search

OMG, I've been doing this wrong for years. I do exactly this, but I always check "Display results as: Topics" instead of posts. And it would always sort the topics by the latest posts.. go figure

As a bonus, you could try searching for /[RELEASE/]. this will search for topics with the exact [RELEASE] tag that is the convention. The slashes are used to prevent the [] from being interpreted as search syntax. This will filter out any topics that might otherwise have "release" in the title.

it doesn't work. for example the third result is viewtopic.php?f=25&t=16001&hilit=release
