Have not used these myself, but from what I know the plastic uretha rods, are made of some cheap plastc/rubber, and they have uneven sides, it's like you cut something off and then there are small plastic leftovers, even if you just cut them away, not something I wanna put down my peehole, in manner of speaking, it needs to be completely smooth.
