Not sure this is the right place -- I'm getting into captioned images and want to do a captioned image story (on imagefap). But the problem I'm running into is that captioning the .jpgs on Microsoft Paint blocks the image itself. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried Adobe Photoshop?

Other free software you can try would be GIMP 2.0, which I rather like. Also, SumoPaint. There are countless free version of programs which will do what you're wanting if you don't want to spend a little money.

Also, paint should have the ability to use opaque or transparent text for doing captions without blocking out large sections beneath the text. I'm not sure how far back Paint added this, so it may or may not be in the version you're running.

For me, the text over the picture is not the best solution imho. Sometime you find an awesome picture with a text you hate and you cannot do anything :-( Because of that, I always put the text next to the picture when I make a caption. But I understand in the case of a story it can be rather boring.
