Viagra was developed as a blood pressure reduction medication.
It works by dilating the blood vessels and allowing better blood flow.
When the trials were over the participants asked if they could keep spare tablets.
When asked why. The current use was divulged.

I wonder how the female version works.

as it was developed for the PURPOSE of treating sexual disorders, i.e. it's not a side effect, I imagine it has something to do with hormones. :-/

It's actually not female viagra. It is something that has to be taken every day and is supposed to work on increasing desire, not performance. It has also been rejected in the past, has serious side effects and has had its effectiveness questioned. This likely should not have been approved given the side effects, but that can be said for many things the FDA approves.
