Admin are aware of the issue, and it will be fixed ASAP. As with everything though, everyone has commitments off line that limit how much work can be done here. Hopefully one of the red dudes will be able to fix it soon though.

Do you happen to know what web browser was being used when the error occured and if the people having issues tried to use a different browser?

they used chrome, Ie and FF. none work, apparantly it just "thinks" for a few seconds and the page reloads and nothing happens.

I just tried it for giggles and confirmed it does that on all browsers.

Is there a way to change my user name, or do I need to register a new account (once this issue is fixed)?

Thanks!

I think you'd need an admin with access to the backend to change a username.
And currently no admins are around :x

That's fine...I'll probably just wait until registration is working again and start a new account...Unless an admin sees this and seems me a massage first...

You can pm me your desired name. That's not a big deal.
