I could think of just two possibilites:

a) They are imitating a (maybe rare) technique in real life sessions. I'm quite sure that a girl wearing nipple clamps and thus experiencing pain could be more aggressive/rough towardes her sub. I dont really think it is strange at all. What you feel is an submissive act doesnt mean it is so for eevrybody else.

Yes, maybe you are right, that I'm too narrow minded here. But isn't most porn infact somehow ... conservative? I imagine them like: "We know BDSM turns people on and girl girl stuff is always hot. So, we are doing girl girl BDSM. And nothing special. Because anything too special and strange might discourage some people from watching." But maye that's just a wrong assumption.

people do things for different reasons. Acts of submission aren't always so. People have restraint fetishes but adorn it because they like the fashion, not because they want to be restrained. Pain is a sensation not to be confused with submission. To submit is to do or experience as compelled by someone or something else, not what one does.

Plenty of people like being tied up on their own terms. It doesn't make them a sub. :).
