Submission or masochism?

So I'v been watching this kink.com video where in the starting interview the model was asked a question: "Would you describe yourself more as a submissive or masochist?". And she replied that she likes stuff being done to her, and is not at all into servitude stuff, so she considers herself a masochist.

And that got me thinking. Indeed, I can call myself a switch, because I enjoy both being dominated AND to dominate the same partner myself, as well as having a purely vanilla sex. But is the part of my kinks can be called "submissive"? Of course, it's a matter of words and how you understand them to some extent. But I find myself, like the model said above, enjoy more the fact of things being done to me. I don't view women as superior to me, I don't have the temptation to worship them. I find myself liking a completelty straight relationship, it's just that I find it amusing to incorporate DS stuff into sexual life, as well as other fetishes. I have a number of things that I would like being done to me from time to time, but I don't actually view myself as a "bottom" or "inferior" or "submissive". It's just good to sometimes loose control and give in to other person, being in her hands like a toy. (It's a good thing to have HER before you as a helpless toy too! :w00t: )

So in that regard, in that definition I'd call myself a masochist (even though I'm not into pain at all).

HOW SHOULD YOU ANSWER THE POLL:
I'v decided to make this section for people who like to find word definitions in the dictionary and argue about the meaning. If you are like that - feel free to suggest another words to be used, but answer the poll based on the description I post below.
1)Submissive - answer that if you are turned on by things like being owned, being commanded. If you enjoy to serve. If you enjoy to do things BECAUSE YOUR DOM ASKS, to please him/her. If you like being a slave, etc etc.
2) Masochist - Choose that variant if you like things being done to you when you are out of control. If you enjoy things like being MADE helpless and experience things. If you enjoy the control being taken from you, rather than GIVING it up yourself. Of course there's always consent, and you willingly decide to give in, but not for the purposes of submission as such, but to experience things being done. So let's say masochists are those who like being out of control WITHOUT deep submission, worship, the desire to please the dom/me and power exchange in the scale of whole relationship.
3) Dominant - choose that if you are completely dominant, and never do "bottom" things. And never would like to. Switches - choose between the first two.
4) Other - Self-explanatory variant. Please specify what's your standing then, it would be great to hear!

hmmm
only one difficulty Nezhul
I could not vote for more than one category

I am sure that there are a few submissive who are also masochist.
also noticed you didn't''t include sadists.

Hmmm... A pretty good point. =\
I didn't think about that one.

Well, we are talking about fetish relationships. So fetish submission kinda suggests masochism, only for the sake of master's approval, not just in-the-moment pleasure.
So let's say masochists are those who like being out of control WITHOUT deep submission and power exchange in the scale of whole relationship.
also noticed you didn't''t include sadists.
Because the poll is kinda about the "bottom" side of the fetish. I'v included "dominant" variant just for all those who are not interested in being a sub/bottom at all.

I'm definitely both submissive and a masochist, but in the pain sense, even without submission. To me, passively having things done to you is more submissive than masochistic, because you're(probably) doing it for someone else's pleasure. I let someone tie me up and do what they want. If I demanded they tie me up and take control, I would feel pretty dominant. Masochism feels different to me. I don't feel like it's having something done to me, it's just pain. It's never actually that straight-forward, I guess, but I could just enjoy pain alone...

I chose to define myself as a masochist. The sensation of pain itself in the right erotic context from such things as cbt, spanking, ballbusting and trampling (to name just a few) is a huge turn-on for me.

Generally speaking I am a switch with a preference for being the bottom but I'm NOT what you would call a 'true submissive'. By that I mean someone who is happy and willing to follow their dominant's orders for no other reason than they recognise their place as the inferior one in the sexual relationship and thus their place is to blindly serve their superior.

Personally I don't like to 'blindly' submit to a woman. I'm not going to just obey her commands. Instead I much prefer the idea of 'forced' submission. I like to be broken into submission usually through a combination of bondage and a variety of painful sexual tortures. If a woman can wear me down enough and push me to a point where I'm 'forced' to give in to her and admit that she has gotten the better of me, then I will gladly act as her humbled, obedient slave. I guess you could say for me, dominance has to be earned and proven before I willingly take my place as a submissive.

All in all, I believe this makes me much more of a masochist than a submissive.
