Is it any more demented than rooting for a serial killer on a TV show? One who drugs his victims, straps them to a table, monologues for a bit, slices their cheek, then stabs them through the heart. Many people love that show, myself included -- but I wouldn't murder anyone and if I ever knew of anyone who did, I'd make sure they were brought to the help they needed.

Sure, the concept of rooting for a serial is indeed "demented" -- if it were real. But Dexter is a fantasy, and every Sunday night I root for the guy and enjoy his kills. It doesn't make me demented. I have no history of experience or issues that would explain why I like Dexter. It also doesn't mean I have any desire or buried psyche to commit murder.


Similarly, those who enjoy certain sexual fantasies, including "mommy" fantasies, doesn't mean it stems from anything more than just the fantasy itself. it doesn't mean they wish to be with their ACTUAL mother, despite what Freud might say on the subject.

It's the people who cannot separate fantasy from reality that you need to be worried about.... not the fantasy itself.
