Ban multiple posters?

I have noticed a few names
posting
several
times
even I get annoyed with the posts... the question is do we ban such an individual?
well there are several problems
only one person can actually ban people from forum posts.
Who assess what is To many?
now granted some are clearly spam
but what if you had 2 or three important things to post in one day??

I don't understand what you are proposing? Ban people who post several times a day? That's hilarious. The worst idea I ever heard.
What the site needs to get rid of spam:
- better bot protection (capcha, other means)
- better administration, i.e. larger moderators number. That said, to keep it free speach forum you could get a few sub-mods who's only responsibility and anly right will be deleting spam topics when they see them. If they do something more than that - they are stripped from this power and that's it.

There is already a time restraint for multiple posting perhaps the time between posts could be extended
Especially when links are included
Maybe a restriction on identical posts and Links.

When there are a few threads that I'm interested in, I may post pretty fast. It doesn't happen a lot on this particular forum, because there isn't a whole lot of topics that I feel like posting in more than once. But IF it happens, I wouldn't want to wait for a few minutes between posts. There are better (and more sucessful) solutions to prevent spam. A bot has unlimited patience when it comes to waiting out timers. Users do not.

Another problem is that the annoying moron is not always a bot, hmm?

Rather than making up arbitrary rules I think admins should use their own judgement and just ban people who clearly are just trying to advertise for whatever it is.

You need to define posting several times so that we can understand exactly what they problem you are trying to get at is. Is this someone creating multiple topics over the course of a day? There is nothing inherently wrong with that, unless the content of the topics is not fit to be posted. Is this someone responding to topics multiple times in a day? Again there is nothing inherently wrong with that if the content does not fall out of bounds.
A cap on the number of posts people can make per day is just an absurd idea. Say a 10 post cap is introduced. Over the course of a day lets say there are 20 new topics created someone may want to comment on. Now said person has to pick and choose which topics to comment on instead of being free to comment on whatever he/she would like to comment on. This would only penalize the people that follow the rules. Spammers will find other ways around it, like create more accounts and max out posts on all of them for the day.
There is the option to flag posts that are inappropriate. There is a comment section when you flag posts to be sure the mods know why you feel the post is should be removed and decide if action needs to be taken. Also just because some people may be annoyed with a post does not mean that post should be deleted and/or have action taken against the poster.

The current problem is multiple postings of links to the SAFF site
I am saying a limit should be set for this kind of action
That is many posts with links to a common web site,
that the mods allow after inspection instead of allowing them all day before they are stopped.
Not just an auto ban which can be wrong.

A very clear NO
For many users it is a perfectly normal and legit pattern to log in, use the forums (including posting several replies within a short time frame) and log off the site until the next visit.
In addition, virtually none of the spam we are seeing here would be caught by a time limit anyway since we are talking about FEW posts and not necessarily posted at once at all.
Ironically, it is far easier for bots to stagger their posting than it is for us legitimate posters.
There are much better ways to deal with spam and very different means needs to be used to address the nature of the spam we are seeing on this site.

The simplest way to deal with that is what is already being done: Reports by users, removed posts by mods/admins, and manual bans of the poster based on human judgement where appropriate...
As far as I can tell, this already works fairly well.
In my opinion, the best point of attack would been to make registration a bit harder, but even that would likely be wasted time and energy since most (all?) of the spam posted here is done by manually registered accounts already...

The trouble is from what I could see a lot of the spamming was going on at a time of day when none of the mods were around. So it's not like they could have done anything about it. Looks like it has all been sorted out now anyway.
Spam usually is sorted out pretty efficiently to be honest so I don't see what the problem is.

ahh well was just thinking out loud
I will admit not all my ideas are good ones
but I was talking about the people who post 5 NEW threads not comment ones
all of which tend to be spam
now I myself have been accused of a little pushing the lines of posting
I was just seeing what others thought!!

Restricting creation of threads is still going to hurt the people that follow the rules more than those that don't. Just keep reporting the spam and the forum mods will take care of them.

So 21 new threads in ten minutes
All links to the SAFF Site
Should not flag up spam and freeze the account.
