Oh my! This could get challenging.

Thanks for looking out for me illtaket, but I'll be ok. Like Churchill said, "“Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense” (well, at the moment this is the way I think. Talk to me in a few weeks and I may be singing a different tune). Besides, I do have plenty of time to find those edges.
Banquo: I had to laugh when you posted this:
because that was almost exactly what I was thinking yesterday.
*sighs* Anyhow, I guess it's time to go what all these new rules are like. If anyone needs me, I'll probably be somewhere else in this thread trying not to blink.

I love it when you get mean
I love you too, Banquo

But I do appreciate Della's 'darker' side as well.

Judging by my present situation you may need more than just "plenty of time" before you're finished. So good luck and I'll talk to you in a few weeks time
But thanks for the Churchill quotation. It will help me to stay in line ... for a little while longer

and now - dont't blink

Haenir,
Della can be wicked and merciless, but she has also shown herself to be fair, contentious, and merciful. As quickly as she will lay down a punishment, she will offer a hug. If at any time you are overwhelmed, feel that following any rules would be unhealthy or unsafe, or need help I strongly suggest you just talk to her (actually I believe it is one of the rules).
Plus it is so much more enjoyable to figuratively and literally spank your ass because you have to, than to just hit yourself. I am sure that is what so many enjoy about the game, and why they can push themselves so much further than if they are their own. I hope all these tasks make it a much more positive experience for you. Although I am glad Della didn't get so mad she made us all do them.
In the meantime enjoy lent. I am not sure this is what the church had in mind, but it seems consistent resisting temptation, in an odd sort of way.

Thanks for the advice goodman. There may very well come a time when I'll ask for a reprieve, but it's still early in the game for me. Besides, who doesn't like a good challenge.

All of your twists certainly increase the frustration from the game, and it definitely slows me down when going through all the posts. I've managed to get up to page 656.
The good news is that I've gotten through a couple posts without blinking. The bad news is that none of them were the ones with my target in them, so I'm still 0/15.
Time for a break.

No, these tasks are Haenir's unique game. I wouldn't want to butt in. Ok, that sounds weird in this context, lets go with I don't want budge in, even though that normally sounds even more wrong.
I did think for awhile about the idea of everyone in the game following known targets and tasks. It created the potential for interesting dynamics. Would we all pull together, or would it turn into a fight? Group dynamics are fascinating. That is more what I reference with my comment than an individual desire for these tasks. Although I would always follow any rule you assigned

Indeed that could be a very interesting experiment..

We wouldn't pull together, as we would quickly realize that is no fun. I think the average waiting time for rare targets would go down, but it would go up for regular targets to the point where most targets would be posted in similar intervals. Maybe we would offer more targets to beginners and less to the more seasoned players and to those who wish to be denied longer. It would be easy to get first few targets, but very hard to get the last one or two. The game would become more predictable.
Another fun variation might be if all the targets were known, but we wouldn't know which target is whose.
I think the game works best if the targets are secret.

I have no idea where this sort of post will lead to. Perhaps we should all be more carefull, what we wish for
It is an intriguing
thought though but all I would
say at present is ..

I agree that it is best to keep THE target secret. To clarify, I only meant knowing the additional targets and tasks, not the main target assigned by our wonderful game host. I apologize that I was a little imprecise in my comments. Plus, this is just a hypothetic thought experiment. I think everyone is enjoying the game as it is designed. I certainly wouldn't want to mess with it.
