I think there's a difference between fantasies or dirty thoughts in your own head versus using a picture or movie as visual stimulation to aid your orgasm. I find porn/erotica to be good for warming up or giving ideas but almost distracting to try to pay attention to while actually masturbating. Sometimes if I'm particularly horny I sometimes kinda block out the external world and focus on my own feelings which helps me enjoy my own pleasure more easily, which I guess you could call a blank mind or awareness. Kinda like I'm in my own little world.

I think it really depends a lot on the woman as others have said. Women's sexual desires/fantasies are just as diverse as men's. That being said in my experience women do tend to prefer erotic stories/writing rather than visual porn. To be fair a lot of porn videos DO seem to focus mainly on the pleasure of men though.

There are women who enjoy porn videos though. One of my first girlfriends was really into BDSM videos, in fact she was the one who really introduced me to it. She brought over a DVD with some rope/spanking/nipple torture stuff, and I took the hint.
