The chat room is getting better

Instead, use the Whisper feature to ask for permission.

Can this be changed to

Do not PM or Whisper, other users without permission.
Instead, politely ask for permission in open chat first.

The vagaries of the Milovana chat room.

Let’s start with the recent one that’s in everybody’s current thoughts.

Chat logs have been disabled.

The reasoning behind this, in my understanding, is that as the chat room is an inherently live one on one part of Milovana things may be said that will be regretted later.

It is unfair for third parties to be able to retain a copy of such bloopers to be used out of context else where or at other times.

I think a fundamental bug is the whisper/ Private Chat system.

Most have found that if you set to whisper someone then untick the whisper box above the text input box you can direct a conversation to an indicated member.
If you leave the whisper box ticked all that you say are hidden to all others than the indicated member.
Now the major drawback is that if another member on your list leaves you are dropped straight into open chat.

Now I don’t give a flying fig what I say in open chat but most do.
This also applies to private chat in that you input goes public as well.

This only applies to the people with a leaving member listed and so is not noticed straight away in many cases.
There is a work around it’s a pain but I have tested and it works.
Stop all chats and leave the room for the lobby.
Then re-enter the room and reselect the member and no others and proceed to whisper or Private chat with no danger.
Do not select another member if you do you become vulnerable again.

Spell checker

There is no spell checker built into the chat software but
Tiny Spell
works all be it a bit clumsily.

More on Whisper and Private Chat.

These comments are not Milovana rules but thoughts and feelings I have received from other chatters.

If you Private chat some one it open a box in their chat page that is unmissable, as it obscures the chats taking place.
Most especially the Ladies hate an unrequested Private Chat .
Many are happy with an unrequested Whisper but some are not.

My view is never jump into a private chat with some one unless you know you are welcome,

Never jump into whisper unless you have whispered or private chatted before also you may whisper to request a repeat private session with a friend.
all other cases if spotted by me see this

SHOW RESPECT Before starting Private Chat and Whispers, Please get an invite in public first!!

!!

so ask in public first and please be patient.
An unrequited request may take a while to be answered so stop being a pain .
I find most people prefer others to be nice to.
The ladies are an always welcome addition to chat but if they are swamped they tend to drift away as they do not wish the incessant chatter/bleating.

Just to point out, this is *not* a requirement, rather a personal preference. Some folks just don't mind. So it's more out of courtesy to fellow chatters, than any sort of formal rule.

Fair comment I did mention that it was not liked perhaps I will try and make your point clear .

Now reads
SHOW RESPECT Before starting Private Chat and Whispers, Please get an invite in public first!!

thanks for the input Indy.

I believe this analysis is correct.

I also believe it is a fairly flawed line of thought on the part of the admins (no offense at all)

If someone in chat wants to retain the data, they can - whether or not milovana likes them to. Lets remember, anything the milovana server sends to a particular chat client (user) to be displayed as "live" data, can be stored by that user, using 3rd party software or something as simple as pen and paper.

In short, there is no way to prevent anyone from maintaining a history of everything that has been said in a way that is visible to that particular user if they want to, so why try?

I think a much better direction to go in for this particular issue is information - make sure all chat users realize that what they write in chat is not necessarily gone the next minute, the next day or the next month, but may in fact be logged. Simply because as I already pointed out, this is the case, completely regardless of what anyone might want it to be.

Please realize I am exclusively discussing technical fact here - I might very well be in agreement that having a strictly "live only" chat being a good idea - I am just advocating the fact that it is not possible.

Even if the network traffic was encrypted, still nothing would prevent anyone from setting up a video camera, taping it all, and transcribing it digitally later...

I completely agree people should get invited before stepping into private chats, but this does not necessarily need to happen in public. As long as it happens.

I don't get it - why? And what does respect have to do with it. Why don't I just write PM to anyone I wish to talk to, and he may refuse answering it or accept. It's he's choice. You don't ask that permission on forums - you just write. I don't get why chat should be different?

My comment may be valid simply because I'v been in chants ant I know what it is like. My opinion isn't less valid if I'm not in this particular chat. :-|

besides, maybe I don't want other people to know I'm chatting (or asked for chat) with someone in private.

I totally agree with Nezhul about his opinion on "asking for private chat".

Les, if the chat system allows any user to open an unmissable window on another user's screen, the chat system is buggy and needs to be fixed. If this behavior is not considered buggy (i.e., it is expected behavior), then the developers/admins are actually expressing their opinion on the matter: there's no need to publicly (or otherwise) ask permission for private chat.

More on private chat

This is a chat window in normal use

this is the same window when a Private Chat box appears.

Now can you see why its annoying.
Especially if you are a female subbie or Domme.
with repeated requests for Private Chatting.
