On a side note, do not ever buy any vpn that's advertised by a youtuber. They all suck. They require at least your e-mail and and billing info. With cryptostorm.is and ivpn.net You can pay with Monero, you get an access token, and you use open source programs and standard protocols. If a vpn provider needs you to use their proprietary app, requires your e-mail and billing info, and an account on their website, they suck.
Oh this is very nice, and thank you for this info! Is there way to register for pmvstash with same degree of anonymity? What is email used for? Does it need to be permanent one? Is there a disclaimer somewhere with what data I will be sharing if I run it outside a vm?

Yes, you can definitely sign-up with a throwaway e-mail (e.g.
guerrillamail.com,
sharklasers.com,
throwawaymail.com) and many users have already done so.
So far, looking at the
stash-box source code, e-mail is only used for initial user activation and password resets.
My opinion:
If you simply want to browse the site and scrape it with your local stash, you can definitely just use a throwaway e-mail and even if you forget your password, you can just create a new account.
If you care about holding onto a username for contributing metadata to pmvstash.org, then maybe use a proper e-mail that you can have long-term access to.
The other piece of data that pmvstash.org will retain are the fingerprints (PHASH, OSHASH, MD5) that you submit from your local stash. This essentially gives pmvstash.org admins a partial view of your collection. The association between a scene fingerprint and the user who submitted it is stored in the database, but normal users cannot see this association. They only see which fingerprints and how many are associated with a given scene. This is also the core feature of the whole thing that enables users to match their collection against the metadata in the pmvstash.org database. You can also delete individual fingerprints that you've submitted by clicking on the checkmark icon next to them.
