Same here. The important milestones for me were first
tribes' DanceWORKout and then
vindicare's Flux Dance Project.
DanceWORKOUT did away with the beatmeter which was standard at the time because everything else was a "Cock Hero" movie. The Flux Dance Project added to this the inclusion of scenes from music videos and included faster edits, synced to the music.
For me there is nothing better than this format. Unless there is some release that is similar in character to these two movies I don't even bother watching porn.
I feel nearly the same, however there are some exceptions. A good surrogate is putting music on in the background and just winging it. Most of the porn I've consumed over the past 6 months has been either PMV, CH, or scenes that I'm looking to use in the future.
An exception being "The Cummoner" which is a pornographic web comic about a witch who charges herself up with sexual energy by summoning lustful demons.
http://www.totempole666.com/ There is actually a story there within a rich world. I find myself attached to the main character, which is something that CH videos have tried to do, somewhat successfully.
Something that drives this attachment is watching her enjoy being ravaged by various monsters and demons--something that I will touch on later in this post...

A tricky thing about PMVs is that they are a bit of a minefield for me. There is just so much material involving anal, trannies, interracial and gangbangs with too many guys, all things which I don't care for. Usually this isn't an issue, I'll check the tags and the thumbnails and move on.
On emp there is an almost constant flow of PMVs and an entire category dedicated to PMVs. A lot of them you will find reposted on pornhub and linked in /r/PornMusicVids/. Quality there varies and typically it's hard to find something that doesn't involve anal, gangbangs, or interracial. But it is interesting to keep an eye on what is produced on that side of the internet.
I think that there's a certain level of fetishized submissiveness that CH videos and sissy hypno videos share. I didn't know what sissy hypno was until I stumbled on it after looking for a different kind of hypnosis video. I still have the image of a man who looked like Linus Tech Tips sucking dick burned into my mind.
I agree that it is annoying that most creators stick to hardcore content; this is kind of a chicken and egg scenario. We are beholden to what the industry produces, and the high quality studios are going to produce mainstream content. I feel like there is a whole lot more hardcore content, and this is worsened by the fact that as an actress ages, she is asked to do more and more in order to remain relevant or "fresh."
It is difficult finding softcore content, it feels like there are 3 or 4 hardcore scenes for every good softcore scene. My favorite part of a hardcore scene is the beginning, before the dude enters the scene, where the actress is wearing the sluttiest outfits etc.
I don't really have an aversion to hardcore content per se, my issue with it is when hardcore scenes are introduced immediately.
THERE NEEDS TO BE PROGRESSION FFS.
A secondary issue, for me, is that I have trouble getting into the scene when the guy in the scene is a third person character. I much prefer POV for this reason. I believe there is an element of dissociation and jealousy unless the guy is a disembodied dick surrogate.
A tertiary issue is when the cum section's scene involves the male talent finishing himself and moaning. This is not what I'm here for, and I don't understand why others use it so much. Necessity? You get attached to the scene and then realize that the finish is garbage, I could understand that.
A recipe for hardcore success, for me, is a POV scene, or a scene where the girl is in control or otherwise seems to be enjoying herself immensely. In videography terms, when the subject of the scene is no longer the girl, but the guy, then I start to dissociate from it.

The specific reason for my curiosity are the patterns I notice mainly in the aforementioned pmv/emp/reddit/pornhub sphere. Who is making all these rnb, trap music, interracial pmvs? Is it white guys who are just into it? Is it black guys? Jews? I would like to know more.
For example, I wouldn't be surprised if hentype was black.
That is a... bold... assumption, no?
For starters, rnb, rap, and trap music have permeated every layer of American society. I can't speak for the rest of the world, though it seems like the culture of this music has been adopted, at least aesthetically, by many different people.
Furthermore, much of the music that we all enjoy today has African roots. As dark as it may be, Gospel comes from American slave songs, which influenced blues, jazz, rnb, which influenced rock music and dance music in general.
The interracial trope is, in my analysis, a relic of racist traditions. If you search "interracial" the first 10 results are likely a black man, or multiple black men fucking a singular white woman. I believe that this is the most popular "interracial" format because of the same reasons that I like "The Cummoner:" watching a woman be ravaged by "the other" evokes a certain kind of enjoyable fear, especially when she seems to be into it.
However, these people are people and not monsters. Their otherness is mostly a construct of systemic generational racial conflicts. Porn directors introduce these men in a similar light as orcs; they have no tenderness, they're only told to destroy.
Now, in the case of my own particular preferences, I find it difficult to get into these "interracial" scenes because of my aforementioned disposition on hardcore content. Even if it's POV, I have difficulty getting into the scene because the actor does not accurately depict me and my whiteness.
