It's essential for me. The anticipation of the reward round is a huge part of the experience.
As others have said, a good reward round should have buildup, plenty of warning, and a countdown. It should be integrated with the music, not a separate thing that feels disconnected from the rest of the video.

There have been a lot of good points made in favor of making a reward round. I get the impression that 50% of the people out there want there to be a reward round. They are demanding it, and it's a deal breaker for them to not have one.
The other half don't seem to care, but are in favor of it, especially if it's done right. And there's been some pretty good insight into what it means to have the round be "done right" too.
I don't really see anyone arguing the case for not having a reward round either.
So I guess that settles it for me - it is something that is essential to have at the end of your video.
( Guess I can do some more video editing for my current project.

)
Thanks everybody. It really has helped to "talk this out" and get some input from everyone.

personally, i think the most important aspect is what you as the artist thinks it should be; to me, the worst thing is for a craft to be ruled by popular sentiment

To me it comes down to this: If after 20, 30, 50 minutes of a kick-ass CH, I want a release. I just want the reward round to be good enough to provide that release. I want it to be merciless, something that makes you lose it in the first minute. I hate having to go find another reward round at the end of a kickass CH because the creator didn't want to deal with it.
