It adds up.

Time spent:

• Gathering clips

• Processing the clips

• Laying out beats on the song

• Rendering the beats

• Editing the clips into place

Does it ever add up, I'm learning haha. I spent probably double that mostly just collecting clips for a whole project the past couple weeks.
But I was curious.. is 4 hours long for you for a round like that. Or short ?

A common rough estimate I've seen for editing is about an hour per minute of finished video for an experienced editor. But that doesn't include preparing music in advance, going through content to find the clips you want, creating beatmeters and stuff like that. And of course it varies depending on the complexity of cuts, if you're doing any post-processing like timer bars and things like that.

As 3xTripleXXX said, it depends. You could possibly bang out a whole round in less than an hour, but it's probably going to be very basic, not many cuts and little to no polish. Or you can easily spend tens of hours on it.

In most cases the music was suggested by the YouTube algorithm. Some times I would find a song and know I needed to make a round for it. Other times I knew what round I wanted to make and found a song to fit it. I don't know how to describe this process other than I did what felt right.
