Is it possible to edit the variables by using the Debug Shell variables tab while running the tease?

It's certainly possible but not always easy or obvious.

See the attached screenshot.

You often need to stretch out the debug shell window to make the Set Value button visible.
When it's not visible, you can still click on the variable, edit the value, then press tab to move to the "Set Value" button. You won't be able to see that you are on it, but pressing enter will still click it and set the new value.

Thank you. Duh -- somehow it didn't occur to me there was more window to be seen.

Hi,

I've downloaded the tease "Halls of the Witched" through MiloDownloader_0.97 and I've tried to open it with GuideMe-v0.4.5. For some reason, the tease doesn't get loaded at all: The screen remains black.

Can you help me find a solution to the problem?

Thank you very much!

Gratefully,
Please post requests for help with the downloader in the downloader thread.
Link is in my signature below.

That usually means the javascript got corrupted by the downloader. I'll have a brief look,
and will reply in the downloader thread.

Hopefully someone can help me with this weird problem I'm having with GuideMe.

Sometimes when I try to open the app it'll open but I won't get the default "homescreen" image, just a black screen.
At the top right it'll also say "Title, Author" and the top left it shows the time but the default welcome text of "To get started, click File/Load and select a guide." is not there. I can't load any teases either, if I try to load a tease nothing happens. The browse window or library window will close and it'll show the black screen again.

The really annoying part though, this problem doesn't happen all the time and seems to be random (which most likely is not but I have no idea what triggers it). I sometimes have no issues at all, sometimes it'll bug but if I try again in like 15 mins it'll work and sometimes it won't work for a couple of days before it'll work again.

I'm running version 0.4.5 but I've had this issue on previous versions as well.
I've experienced this on both my laptop and desktop, which are both running Windows 10.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this or how to fix it?
I also use Windows 10, and have used Guideme on many different computers over the years, and while I've had similar issues on occasion, I've not had that exact same issue, and never to the recurring extent you describe.

The first thing that comes to mind is to make sure there are no phantom Guideme (java) processes left running. Guideme has a few bugs that sometimes cause the process to not exit cleanly.

I would also suggest, if you haven't already, re-downloading the latest Guideme, and install a fresh copy to see if that helps.

Also check the GuideMe logs, jscript log and VLC log for any clues.

For the most part I've found Guideme to be pretty stable and reliable, and there haven't been many reports of things like this so I suspect you're dealing with more local issues or factors.

Other food for thought:
Do you use VPNs? If so, does this only happen when a VPN is active?
Does a reboot fix it?
How old are your computers, particularly the hard drives?
You didn't mention any so I assume not, but are there any other weird things going on with your systems that may indicate potential hardware issues?

Can't think of anything else at the moment.
Hope that helps.

Hi! Sorry for the rudely late reply, life just got in the way for the longest time.

I did manage to find a fix which works for me but it's so stupidly specific I doubt it might be helpful for others but regardless;

I use a bluetooth headset for audio and if that one is not connected there are no audio devices enabled on my computer. I've disabled all other devices (like the monitor speakers, why is that even a thing).

When I don't have my headset connected (and thus no audio device enabled) guideme won't work. Whenever I have the headset connected it will work. Even to the point I'll try to start it up without the headset connected, realizing it doesn't work, I connect the headset and run it again and it works.

So yeah, go figure :) anyways, maybe someone else might have the same issue so just letting you know what worked for me.
