[ESTIM] Youtube channel Estimmers should check out

Post by digitalparkinglot »

Hey Estimmers,

If you haven't seen it, you should check out this Youtube channel. It's got dozens of estim tracks and some are REALLY good. I'm not affiliated and don't know anything about who is doing it. I just know there are some really good tracks there... and you should check it out.

I wonder if these are dual channel or tri phase

Looks very much like a promotional sidekick from e-Stim Systems: I think nearly most shown products come from their lineup, but I maybe wrong...

However, building those files means effort and well tuned expierience is always welcome

Which kind of box did you use @digitalparkinglot, 2B or DIY?

Both or none :-D.
Newest video has differences both in volume level and in phase shift. So you can check it in original form or after conversion tri->dc. But probably was meant to be tri.

Previous video has no differences at all (duplicated mono) so after conversion tri->dc, second channel is lost.

PS. I checked only short samples. Maybe it changes during video.

Very interesting find, thank you DPL. I'll check out some files when I got some time.

Meanwhile, I found their home page: https://www.estimmusiclabs.com
While it doesn't explicitly state how the files should be used, the explanation on the bottom of https://www.estimmusiclabs.com/videos/ suggests they are intended to be used in a triphase setup.

It didn't take me long to run into unsuitable audio for Stereostim, many of these files have very low frequency
The sort of stuff that would come through as deep bass if played through a speaker. Not good to just hop on with these files without perusing through them within Audacity spectrometer to remove the harmful stuff.

I have been told that low frequencies are not good or unsafe for DIY stereostim, I dont know if this is accurate. I did notice that LOTS of this channels stuff is in that range. If you ask the internet, they're like "what? tens units have low frequencies. Whats the big deal?"

I'm new enough to not actually know anything about this, and cant really find anything on the web to say why its bad. Do the pads heat up? can someone fill me in?

TENS units produce very very short pulses, so you could (very roughly, loosely) describe their output as every 100th pulse of high frequency. That pulse carries very small energy but is enough to activate nerves.
The stereostim low frequency signal has waves that are in range 10-100x longer and carry that much more energy and potential for damaging cells.

The main problem isn't the frequency of the pulses, which is what TENS people mean when they talk about frequency, but the width of the pulses. For analog devices that depends on the carrier frequency.

Due to cell leakage, the wider the pulse, the more charge needs to be injected in the cell before it generates an action-potential. This is a problem because chemical stability of the electrode material and skin depends on the total amount of charge injected per pulse. With very wide pulses (think DC), metal electrodes will corrode extremely fast, water in the cells turn into hydrogen, and other issues. These mechanisms limit the maximum charge-per-pulse (and thus minimum carrier frequency) that is still safe to use.

I've found that with the electrodes and power levels I use, the safe limit is about 1000hz. With lower carrier frequencies, I get skin irritation for 1-2 days after the session. This is specific to my electrode setup and power levels. Most people seem to be fine around 500hz. But again, it depends on the electrode placement, materials, electrode size and overall power levels.

The issues with high carrier frequencies are completely different, it's mostly joule heating you're worried about. Joule heating is very easy to identify, it looks exactly the same as ordinary thermal burns.

Don't think I've seen a TENS unit that takes audio input. They're a very different form of estim. They deliver quick, rapid-fire pulses designed to induce a release of endorphins, not a sustained current designed to induce ever-increasing arousal. So I would hesitate to take advice from someone who offered this sort of response.

Need to be careful not to get a YouTube ad kicking in at the wrong moment . So this seems a bit risky, although it's useful to see the more-popular offerings to pull from the website.

That's why you never play anything from a stream/website directly. You download it beforehand. With JDownloader, you can chose which version you want. No need to download the whole "video" (where nothing is happening), just download the audio as .m4a
