[Video] Is Gooning good for you?

Post by PlayfulGuy »

Recently someone I know was telling me about a youtube channel called HealthyGamerGG, that has helped him out a lot with some mental health struggles. The channel is run by a professional counsellor who goes by "Dr. K", and the channel has some fantastic material, including What Does 'Gooning' Do To Your Brain?

As someone who has gotten more into gooning in recent months I had actually been wondering about this and was pleasantly surprised to find this video. Having watched it, I highly recommend that anyone into gooning check it out. The video is very interesting, and while he doesn't draw any real conclusions, and there's basically no research on the topic, he does give a great summary of what gooning is and what it does for us, and gives some great comments on what he thinks are potential downsides to it.

He also has a number of other videos that will be of interest to Milovanians, like Should You Stop Watching Porn? and How Years of Porn Consumption Affects Brain's Ability to Form Relationships, among others.

Food for thought...

I previously watched multiple videos from Dr. K and I like his way of breaking down complex topics.

This one basically restated everything I already knew (but maybe I never thought about some aspects, or was not aware that there are medical reasons behind some of the patterns), but it was thanks to Someone (thanks Someone, you will know who you are) that I realized this phenomena (the gooning) is actually human version of Behavioral sink which happened in Calhoun's mouse utopias (especially Universe 25).
When there is no struggle, there is no progress. While this quote is completely out of context and it means something different here, it is still correct - when life is made perfect for you, no danger, no struggle, you have home and food secured, and there are no problems to solve, no struggle to overcome - life looses all purpose.
I think gooning exists because our lives are too easy and it is how we add strugle, sometimes very hard struggle, to spice up our existence and make lives interesting.

Had to go read some of that Behavioral sink article. Very interesting. The part that resonates with me is the feeling that I no longer need to have a partner, because I'm quite content on my own. I kind of wonder if I'm even capable of a normal relationship anymore. In the sexual arena in particular, apart from a few peak experiences, gooning gives me more satisfaction than I got from previous partners. A partner would be nice though :-D

I think with all the accessories/enhancers and sources of stimulation we have (or at least that I have) it is even worse than that. I have a partner, but in a hypothetical scenario where a choice had to be made between partnered vanilla sex or this, it would be too easy to choose to not have partnered sex.
But in another hypotethical scenario where your partner is Someone who also discovered the state of goon, and enjoys to spend time in it, as well as to explore the primal masculine and feminine instincts of giving and receiving, then again it would be too easy to sell vr headset and delete all porn.
It is all great while you are at your own "state of the art" level, and once you unlock next level, the current one gets kinda ruined for you. But I can promise you that the gooning he talked about in this video is not the ultimate pleasure. There is more to our soul and mind than just chemistry and electricity, and there is purpose you can feel and find. Fulfilling it can bring this pleasure out of bedroom/goon cave and into your whole life. So don't stop looking for Someone who can take you there.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I guess part of me just doesn't believe I'll ever find a partner who is as much into sex as I am, so I figure I'm stuck with gooning. But, at least for now I'm okay with that, and open to the possibility of.

Good points, and good thoughts. Thanks for that.
