I hate to be bearer of bad news but I know this would be important to many on this forum. She was one of my favorites.

Terrible news, and also a bit awkward considering I was stroking to her this morning. She was definitely one of my favorites. Barely legal when she started, big natural tits, and a tongue piercing; among my favorite traits in women. And from following her on Instagram I got the vibe that she was a genuinely cool chick. :-(

What's the etiquette for mourning a dead porn star anyway??

Mourn for however long you want, then go back to jerking off to her videos.
Or mourn and jack off at the same time...

Someone please make a Cock Hero focusing on only August Ames. Something much like the magnificent one that exists for Leah Gotti which is one of my favorites.

Death was a result of cyber-bullying. She ended up hanging herself because she didn't want to participate in a scene with a gay male. She received, from what looks like, on Twitter. Several agencies have delayed the release of some of her scenes and some will come at a later time.

People should really begin to lay off Twitter, it's by far the most fucked up social network there is, there is something that systemically makes people behave worse there.

"Keyboard warriors" will always be there hiding behind their screens with the impunity that anonymity of the internet provides. It is those people who cause the most harm, especially to those reaching out for helpful advice, guidance or support. A long time ago there was a short response "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me". It has been revealed quite the opposite is true. Words cause more harm than any stick or stone ever could. Physical wounds heal. Emotional wounds are carried as a life sentence.

Remember everything you say to anyone, be it in person, over the phone or over some form of social media, can be hurtful. Emotional topics do not convey well through reading text unless you happen to be an award-winning novelist or poet. It is much easier to cause harm through your keyboard than it is to convey love, caring and support for others. Please be careful of what you type to others. If you become aware of, or concerned about someone else who may be negatively impacted by cyber-bullying, reach out to them and try to help them find the help they need to work through it in a safe and healthy manner.

But that's the thing, Twitter is not an anonymous network, people who bullied her did not so anonymously and will likely face some repercussions, but they never once thought about possible repercussions, persuaded as they were that being “on the right side” justify everything.

Very well said. Hard to know if it was 100% because of the bullying, but it's still fucked up.
I'm glad that I can be part of this little corner of internet which is one of the most open and friendly communities that I know of.

Rest in peace.

At the time of my posting of this thread the cause of death was "unspecified". If it was suicide I will not be surprised. To be fair, the "cyber-bullying" incident arose from an issue she created in July 2015; almost 2½ years ago. So it would be hard to blame that on any acute distress she was having. But her twitter acct had in the past indicated that she suffered from bi-polar disorder, so I'm sure that also played a heavy role.

I'm a type of guy who thinks there are always three sides to a story. His - hers - the truth. I'm a guy who thinks extreme right republicans and extreme left democrats are both wacked. The truth lies somewhere in the middle of their bizarre ideals and agendas. Politics aside - this same paradigm guides me in many ways - I suppose that's why I am comfortable in my role as a Grievance Resolution Specialist with my career and having majored in psychology.

With that all in mind - I read that "sticks and stones" comment and I empathize and agree that cyber-bullying is wrong, and thoughts/comments are psychologically damaging. Yes. Absolutely. And I also think that social media - especially Twitter - is a cess-pool of angry extremists (see above) who use it to espouse their vitriolic hate without much repercussions of having to express themselves in person - to one's face.

On the other side of the coin - and just as important - I also see that people in large part - take things way too seriously, and have become way too sensitive about everything. Seriously! There is a huge epidemic of butt-hurt syndrome in this country!!! People seem to WANT to be insulted, they WANT to be offended. They look for ANY reason to spout off and claim foul and draw drama and attention to themself and their cause, start a riot, whatever. Becoming offended and angry is a choice. Responding is a choice. This has led to an exorbitant amount of backlash against so many people for truthfully very little. This is especially true with any special interest group who finds any reason to claim something was offensive. Furthermore, people use social medial to air their thoughts and concerns publicly which opens them up to criticism. It's one of those things where if you play with fire, don't cry foul if you get burned.

In Augusts' case, she stated in 2015 that she didn't want to work with a particular male actor due to his work as a gay porn star and did so unprotected, and she felt uncomfortable with that as she didn't want to expose herself to that risk. That's a fair concern, and no one should be forced to do something they are uncomfortable with. But she chose to air that concern publicly. It would have been wiser to just say "no thank you." Of course that didn't sit well with certain groups who support gay movement and that created a shit-storm of "cyber-bullying" and no doubt her work with professional studios was likely compromised due to social pressure. If you've seen this kind of cultural social extortion once, you've seen it 1000 times.

The point is - cyber bullying (any bullying) is wrong, and is damaging yes. But there are so many other factors at work. Don't expose yourself, don't make yourself a victim. Don't use social public medial to air your private concerns. Lighten up. Don't take everything so seriously. Try to see things from more than just your own myopic point of view. And seriously folks - we're all in this together - we can't expect others to always agree with us - but don't take that personally and find offense with everything that doesn't fit your agenda. Good, bad, or indifferent. I'm not one of those love and peace hippie types, but I also see that people are easily angered and offended unreasonably. Twitter and social media seems to exacerbate that 100-fold.

Let us not lose sight of the overall tragedy here of a young beautiful person feeling that her only way out was suicide. Whether it was bullying, a symptom of a mental disorder, or other acute issues that arose. Suicide is a BAD Long-term solution - to a temporary problem. Regardless of how anyone feels about her for her career choice, she was still a lovely young lady only 23 years of age, and seeing or hearing anyone speak of her who knew her personally cannot express enough just how kind and wonderful spirit she had.

I challenge everyone today to do one thing - just 1 thing - that makes someone else's day a little better. It's just as infectious as twitter-bait and let it pass along to someone else to spread that cheer. You never know just how profound an effect a simple comment or gesture of kindness can have. Just as one of hate and anger does.

Well said, CT.

You and I are kindred minds on this it seems. Actually the deinstitutionalization began in the 50s. By the 70s it was an epidemic; and with the introduction of easy-access to psychotropic and psychedelic drugs - it made it worse.

Now we over-medicate those who don't need it by inventing disorders in order to sell pharmaceuticals, and under-medicate those who do need it thanks to fraud and abuse of the health care system that created such a bureaucratic nightmare for a healthcare system.

Meanwhile - you're right - people anonymously use social medial to spread hate. That being said - people still choose to be offended. And people still choose to read incendiary comments and be part of the hate-pool. So the truth is in the middle as I said earlier. Both sides of the proverbial aisle are typically right and wrong at the same time. Find compromise middle ground and bend a little. Moderation. Empathy. These would go a long way towards ones own happiness. Life is like gardening. If you plant roses - you'll have roses. If you plant weeds and thorns....

Well said Cybertoad. It's not even just the anonymity - simply having the "internet wall" between you and another person, even if you know each other, reduces empathy and makes people say things to each other they wouldn't say in person. And it's all posted publicly, so if you shame or bully someone it's in front of their friends/family. August Ames was called a homophobe publicly on twitter because she didn't want to have unprotected sex with gay/bi performers. I'm sure it wasn't the first time she was harassed online, but it was the last.

Very sad news.

I've read comments here and elsewhere and the general consensus is that saying hurtful things on the internet is terrible, and an implied or explicit desire for people that say mean things to be held responsible and punished in some way.

It's understandable feeling, but I believe it's unreasonable and even dangerous. Some points why:

- People can and do take offense at anything. Literally. How would we judge what was 'worthy' of offense and punishment and what is not?

- It's not hard to imagine that criticism could push a depressed person over the line, even if such criticism is warranted. So ... no criticism ever?

- Concern about hurtful words is not symmetric. People accept 'mean' things being said about the 'out' group without a second thought, while simultaneously taking great offense at minor insults against anyone in the 'in' group they see as special/vulnerable in some way and want to protect. Who wins this battle? Does the group with the most people get to say whatever they want while the other group has to stay quiet and take it? Or do we apply rules equally to both sides. Either we have protected free speech or we don't. Nothing is more unjust than a subjective application of the rules.

- If we don't want free speech anymore, fine, but then prepare stay very quiet and never say anything for fear of offending someone and facing the consequences.

I worked with an older guy who was a Vietnamese refugee. Nice guy, but whenever I asked him an opinion about 'x' or 'y' he just state some vague "I don't know", or "I don't really think about that", or some other excuse not to state an opinion. It took several times before I clued in. When he was growing up as a kid what you said could get you killed. If he seemed 'critical' or 'negative' about the 'wrong people', he might be reported and that would be the end of him. So he learned to never say anything beyond the necessities.

Anyways just some thoughts. August Ames death is undeniably tragic and if mean comments on twitter pushed her over the edge, that unfortunate, but it's not enough reason to want to hunt down and hurt those who said these things against here. The irony is they were hunting her down for saying 'mean things' and wanting to punish her (get her fired, embarrass her, etc). So where does this end exactly?

This is really really sad! Such a young age... I'd like to understand what go through their mind to act in such a drastic way.
