I haven't been on piratebay for a couple of years, but found a working link in about 3 seconds, isn't this going to be the same? The politicians just want headlines, seems like no one has a clue on how they can make it work. Just headlines to 'prove' that they're dong something.

I think this belongs into the same corner as the "Videogames generate violance"-Idea which has been proven bullshit. Young people are confronted with fiction all over the place and they are able to distinguish.
There is also no evidence of increasing problems. There isn't more sexual violance amongst young people, in some western countries birth rates are going down and more people are living alone, but this is a development that has started way before internet porn became mainstream.

Also, it would absolutely suffice to make filtering an optional service that has to be provided by either ISPs or manufactures of home routers. There would be absolutely no need to force this on people.

This is clearly about one thing only: forcing the ridgid morals of some poeple onto the general public.

Create a problem ...
Side note, Anyone use a good VPN they'd recommend for the UK?
... to sell the solution.

Also
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
UK already "came for": ch_ild po_rn, then for sadomasochists. Now they come for online porn. :\'-(
I wonder, when and how they will stop?

We are heading for an age of New Puritanism

Soon this will be the only type of picture you will be able to find to masturbate to :-/

Oh, it'll happen. The Tories want more and more control, if you hadn't noticed. Although, in this case, it might actually be appropriate, because young people accessing porn is an increasing problem, with knock-on effects on their sex lives when they are unable to clearly distinguish between reality and acting.

Does that sort of thing work? I would have thought that the companies would check with the credit card issuer.

Maybe there is a site already validating age, to test on?
It's not just the the Tory's who want more control there were loads of illiberal policies introduced and even an attempt to imprison people for 28 days without being charged. There was illiberal legislation supported by the Liberal Democrats in the coalition such as the legislation that banned UK porn companies creating films involving female ejaculation, watersports, trampling, face sitting and much more. The problem is the political class and their belief in a big nanny state. There isn't a single party a liberal in the UK can vote for.

Well, I'm not going to go into a debate here. Just to remark that while you're correct about the video games and about violence,
It was same "idea" from same political parties. Just change porn <> games.
Marno wrote: Sat Mar 17, 2018 1:14 pm there is in fact evidence (within the UK — I don't know about other countries) that teens, both young and old, are affected negatively by porn.
They start masturbating instead of impregnating girls?
Marno wrote: Sat Mar 17, 2018 1:14 pm Specifically, girls are experiencing increased pressure to perform acts that boys have seen online, often unpleasant ones. You can look up the research; it has been reported by the BBC among others.
Same bullshit as "Videogames generate violance". For same reason. Also note the following:
When porn are available, girls are know more about sex. As a result, they are capable to tell more clearly, what other people proposed for them. Also they become more willing to talk about it.
See Survivorship bias
Marno wrote: Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:21 am I would, however, suggest that instead of banning the porn (because teens will easily find a way around any ban anyway), it would be far, far superior to educate them about porn, its consequences and impacts, its unrealistic nature, and the lack of connection between porn and real-life relationships with sex.
I would too.
Marno wrote: Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:21 am But this idea is much too commonsense to win votes, so politicians will instead seek to ban porn.
"Winning votes" matters little, support from higher government matters much more. (Unless you are a president of purely democratic country.) Joycelyn Elders was forced to resign by President Clinton, not by common people.
Also they may think:
lack of porn => less masturbation + lack of knowledge about sex
less masturbation => more unresolved sexual tension
more unresolved sexual tension => people more willing to have straight sex without thinking
people more willing to have straight sex without thinking => more straight sex
lack of knowledge about sex => unsafer sex practices
more straight sex + unsafer sex practices => more unplanned pregnancies
more unplanned pregnancies => more poor people
more poor people => cheaper workforce
But, for common people, "more unplanned pregnancies" and "more poor people" are clearly not good!
Why those common people have crab mentality about masturbation?
I don't think that they don't know about main use of porn - masturbation. And it is not that hard to tell teens about it.
The question is: why they want to hurt those teens? First by taking their masturbation away, that make them have random sex (just to resolve sexual tension), and finally, poor quality of life.

There is a plenty.
Marno wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2018 11:50 am I would like to see a list of online verification sites (such as MindGeek is building), and a comparison of their privacy policies.
Privacy policies can change in matter of HOURS.
Marno wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2018 11:50 am I would like to see a system that stores nothing other than what must be stored for legal reasons, and passes to sites requiring verification nothing more than "yes" or "no" for an email address.
Well, that would be pointless for politics, because it can't be abused. (Until they change "what must be stored for legal reasons".) And it couldn't create many problems for people.
Marno wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2018 11:50 amIf I knew how to do it, I'd develop this myself, open-source of course!
For reason listed above, politicians wouldn't allow it use - such verification would be useless for their goals.

BTW, how (from the point of view of "common people" and those politicians), teens should resolve their sexual tension?
Or those teens should just "live in darkness", until their lust overpowers them?
